With the new Godzilla movie about the invade cinemas, I imagined and drew Ian Anderson (circa 1969) towering over a skycraper, but not spewing radioactive breath. Instead, of course, he's playing flute on one leg! -David awesome!

Interesting Preston. I think Ian should have used the video projections sparingly. There should be sections where there is no video and therefore room to improvise and for the focus to be on the musicians only. It makes for a more dynamic presentation to use video at certain points and not through the entire gig.

Thanks Preston,I agree it has been a long time coming, I recorded the whole interview and chat with Jane's permission, it's taken a time to transcribe [and still isn;t fully finished] due to ambient noise from the surrounding area we were in. other interruptions unconnected to Jane delayed it further. However, Jane offered to meet up again and redo parts of the interview and to elaborate on some parts. Jane has also given an interview for the upcoming APP release but I think ours will elaborate on a bit more since we won;t need to edit it to fit. I'm hoping to catch up with here in London sometime at the end of May/early June Quizz this is just "wonderful" very much looking forward to this! Thanks for your efforts in tracking Jane down.

It's tough to answer this without sounding like you don't like the record.. or sounding like a Monday morning quarterback. I give Ian a lot of credit for coming up with another collection of good songs in little time. There are many good things I like about HE but just to pretend I were in charge I would first and foremost take out all the early 90's style rapping verses in Enter The Uninvited and all the lyrics about "Facebook" and "The Walking Dead" etc.. ugh! ..makes me cringe. That could have been a great song otherwise imo. New Blood Old Veins has a very cool odd groove to it but I would have made the change less straight forward. Browning of the Green could use new lyrics! Has a couple good moments but could have been much stronger with a different change I feel.. Again, some of the songs start strong and the changes aren't as exciting. I would have changed the chorus on Pax Brittanica, just a little too jolly. I actually think the first minute of Puer Ferox Adventus could have done without the sound effects. I think just some strings there would have been enough, otherwise, the flute instrumental sections are really great and the most Tull-like on the album. Meliora Sequamur reminds me of a quirky psychedelic song from the 60's maybe. It's pretty unique for an Ian composition and in that respect I do kind of like it. Tripudium Ad Bellum is a great Tullian jam and I find nothing wrong with it. I would have made at least half this record instrumental. The melodies are strong enough to stand up without vocals, although I think Ian's vocals do sound really good at points on this recording and Ryan's doubling up strengthens them considerably. After these Wars doesn't do it for me I would have re-worked it. I know what Ian was going for and I'm sure it's a popular favorite for some but I can live without it. Guitar solo could be right from Metallica's The Unforgiven and while played well, I find it way to 80's power ballad cliche'. The spoken word stuff would go.. It's non musical to me.. a skipper!! There was more than enough on TAAB2! Cold Dead Reckoning is a good closer to the album but the little bit at the very end should have lasted another few minutes or have been a whole other tune. I do actually like the production of the record a lot. I think it's a good Ian record, better than TAAB2 but no WITL or Divinities. I do look forward to and will enjoy seeing it performed live.

Well, I don't know ... The recent HE boxed set was $65 The new APP is in the $30-40 range Decent concert tickets are in the $45+ range (with closer seats $75 or more) That's got to have something to do with it. Last I heard the APP was $66 (I assume that will go down?) and concert tickets were $135. $45-$75 for good seats is reasonable. I saw Roger Waters "The Wall" a couple years ago and thought $100 was even a little steep, and that was a BIG production! I still haven't gotten used to paying hundreds of dollars to see a concert so $135 to see the Ian band seems a little much, although I will do it. I do wonder though if cutting Martin's budget out of costs has allowed Ian to give more of a stage production?

Wow, lots of good stuff in this post. Two questions ... 1. Is that the same gallery that was in the inside cover of "Stage Left"? 2. Is this a 'tell-all' memoir or an account of the guitars he used? Either way, I'm in. Thanks! 1. The gallery was on Martins "old" website. I looked just a bit ago and its not there any more. It was pretty extensive, a picture from every different tour with a story about the axe pictured. 2. It sounds like an over all autobiography and hopefully he will talk about his guitars again. I have a feeling he will he seems to like them :-) and maybe tell ALL! too. Darin Dennis was mentioning on FB about researching the evolution of Tull's gear. I would LOVE something like this. I would love to interview Martin in detail about all the gear used for recordings and gigs. I have read the stuff from his site which is good but I want details! As for the book.. who knows if we will ever see it. but he was up to 1972 in fact. Would like to get a hold of MB...

My guess the three top reasons.. 1. Ian's voice now has a reputation of being shot. 2. Many devoted Tull fans getting to the age where they just don't go out to concerts as much. 3. Ticket prices are ridiculous!
Remember in the 90's when the EAGLES did a reunion concert. We heard tickets were going to be around a hundred dollars and it was just unthinkable!

Maybe I'm being pessimistic but I have seen this before on a few new groups. There seem to be too many sub-sections to this group. It takes a heck of a lot of effort to check out each one and, given the lack of activity on some boards I think they might prove better off if grouped into less categories. I'd be delighted to be proved wrong, and it wouldn't be the first time.... We have taken your suggestion and cut out a number of categories and sub categories. We have some more work to do but we will get there. We do take suggestions seriously. We will keep tweaking.

Brilliant isolated track from TAAB (do you believe in the day) which has always been a favorite of mine. Ian's voice in it's prime!

Jioffe Well, you should know that a little of what you fancy does you good [or so it should].
A little of what I fancy would get me arrested! Good thinking! Weren't they the people behind those old Tull classics A Wee in Time, Jingle in the Jungle, At last! Forever..., Reasons for Not Waiting and who could forget The Pissler! Cheers, jioffe. haha.. don't forget the classics Pisstream & Aqualeak.

The songlists for these releases are always ridiculous. Yes, good to have with the discs I suppose but annoying to include on every press release. All I need to know is "Passion Play" New Stereo mix and DTS 5.1.. and whatever videos may be on the DVD. I am not that "anal" Ian.

Price is going up fast as well as the release date now pushed back to June 30 Probably because it is being listed as an import. I'm sure it'll be more reasonably priced when it gets closer to the release date. I hope you're right Ian. When I hear about the price going up and up it drives me crazy!

I just find it to be very charming, right off the bat with a song like "Quiz Kid" which criticizes game shows, which to me is still very relevant. Same for "Crazed Institution" with it's criticism of 'style over substance', specifically the whole glam rock era, but I feel that it is still applicable to modern pop music. I've always just loved it, the sound, the humor, the writing, everything. And Ian's voice is just top-notch throughout. I don't know if it's the 'British-ness' of it that I find so appealing or not, but I admittedly have a certain fondness for many aspects of British culture, art, and humor (I love Monty Python, for instance). So maybe that's why? Until Tull chat groups existed I had no idea TOTRNR was even underrated, while it's not "thick as a brick" it is still up there with the best of the rest as far as i'm concerned with the exception of the title track. (Maybe that's why?)

Nice! But isn't this just the vocals and acoustic instruments isolated? Geoff Yes that's what it is. You don't hear the acoustic guitar over the verses on the record so this version sounds like an acoustic version revealing the nuances of the vocals or as darin says "the guts" and is a very interesting mix to hear...to me anyways.
