I was wondering about this: I've not read that Ian is lip-syncing. Show me one report of this. “Actually playing the flute…” is the only remark close to this. This is all I've seen on this matter: rawramp.me/2015/09/09/new-show-jethrotull-performed-by-ian-anderson-anvilarts-it-does-not-work-as-an-opera-but-its-still-fun/That said, Ian Anderson is no Jon Anderson. So, while the magical voice could hold your attention on recordings, it is less suitable for large auditoriums. Operatic it ain’t! And there was another problem too… We waited, like patient citizens, for the “magicians reveal”. You know, that moment when the curtain falls back… And the ‘true’ singers are exposed… But, unfortunately, there was no ‘Prestige’. The characters remained on the screen. Filmed onto a rather amateurish back-drop. The band merely played in front of this. This led to one member of the audience wondering out-loud if Anderson was “Actually playing the flute…” And, to be honest, we could not be positive that he was… Not the whole time, anyway. And that’s the problem when you combine live music with pre-recorded sounds. Of course, this was all cleverly managed. But, still, we would have preferred it all to be live.

What does it sound like?: Bargepole / 30.04.2015 What does it all *mean*?
As with the Passion Play and War Child rereleases, this album has really benefitted from being remixed and now has a less compressed sound – there seems to be more space between the various instruments and the different layers of sound are crystal clear.
Goes well with…
If you are a Tull fan, then this is yet another compulsory purchase – one of their classic period albums is now rendered even better! A very worthy addition to the band’s catalogue of reissues.

link - Jethro Tull: Back to Basics (Sort Of) By Sean Murphy 20 March 2015Jethro Tull, again? It’s Steven Wilson’s fault. Actually, it’s Jethro Tull’s fault. That is, the fact that we have yet another deluxe reissue of another Jethro Tull album has everything to do with the fact that this was one of most productive and consistently excellent bands, progressive or otherwise, all through the ‘70s. So in this regard, it’s not Jethro Tull’s fault that we’re getting a new reissue each year because, back in the day, they were knocking off classic albums every year.

I'm bemused for sure, too. Monkey puzzle and the lid is on. Ian Anderson will sing of Jethro Tull the seed driller, not in Jethro Tull the group. I see clearly now!

Read More: Ian Anderson Says Jethro Tull Will Never Get Back Together by Nick DeRiso February 24, 2015Anderson is pushing back against those who want a reunion of longtime members of Jethro Tull, saying he prefers to work with the current lineup. “I am rather bemused by the fan gossip surrounding who might be, or should be, at my side in concert,” Anderson recently wrote on the band’s official website. “All of the musicians in the current band have performed as members of Jethro Tull during the last decade. They are fine musicians, wonderful people and my closest friends.”

The second disc is a live performance recorded in Paris in July 1975 where the band showcased tracks from the album ahead of its launch. In addition, the album comes with a short film of the group playing the record's title track at the same concert. Additionally, on the same day as the La Grande edition launches, a stereo remix of Minstrel In The Gallery will be released as a CD single, on digital formats and as a limited-edition heavyweight 180g vinyl pressing. Its elaborate production is reminiscent of the band’s 1972 classic Thick As A Brick and its songs rock as hard as anything in the band’s vast and storied catalog . To mark the occasion of the album’s 40-year anniversary, Parlophone will present several new versions of the record. Minstrel In The Gallery: 40th Anniversary La Grandé Edition will be available as a limited edition 2CD/2DVD set on April 28th. Highlights from the set include: -Original album and seven bonus tracks (six previously unreleased), two mixed to 5.1 surround , and all to stereo by Steven Wilson -Flat transfers of the original LP mix at 96/24+ Summerday Sands -Flat transfer of the original quad mix of the LP + Summerday Sands -An eight and a half minute film of the band performing “Minstrel In The Gallery” in Paris from July 1975 -Presented in a case-bound DVD book that includes an 80-page booklet featuring an extensive history of the album, track-by-track annotations by Ian Anderson, recollections by roadie Kenny Wylie, Maison Rouge maintenance engineer Pete Smith, and string section member Liz Edwards plus lyrics, tour itinerary and rare and unseen photographs. Additionally on April 28th, a new stereo remix of Minstrel In The Gallery will also be released on a single CD, digitally, and on 180-gram vinyl as a limited edition pressing. When it was originally released, Minstrel In The Gallery became the band’s fifth consecutive US Top 10 album, peaking at #7 and #20 in the UK. It was also the last to feature the longtime lineup of Ian Anderson, Martin Barre, John Evan, Barriemore Barlow and Jeffrey Hammond-Hammond. For this anniversary edition, the album has been expanded with the b-side “Summerday Sands,” several studio outtakes, as well as alternate session material done for a BBC broadcast, of the album’s title track, “Cold Wind To Valhalla” and “Aqualung”. The second disc features a live recording of the band performing at the Olympia in Paris on July 5th, 1975, a few months prior to the release of Minstrel In The Gallery. During the show, the band played songs from several of its albums, including War Child (1974) and Aqualung (1971), as well as an early performance of Minstrel In The Gallery. It was mixed to 5.1 & stereo by King Crimson guitarist Jakko Jakszyk.

Minstrel In The Gallery 40th Anniversary La Grandé Edition (2CD/2DVD) Singleforums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/jethro-tull-minstrel-in-the-gallery-expanded-april-2015.411275/www.quadraphonicquad.com/forums/showthread.php?19846-Jethro-Tull-Minstrel-in-the-Gallery-Remix-Nextwww.musictap.net/2015/02/02/wilson-remix-of-minstrel-in-the-gallery-by-jethro-tull-expected-in-april/In September of 2014, some tweeted “I hope…” that Steven Wilson’s next remix project would be Jethro Tull‘s 1975 classic, Minstrel In the Gallery. Well, it looked as if that hope came to fruition as we now are aware that the 40th Anniversary of Minstrel In the Gallery will be releasing on April 28 (US). In the Jethro Tull catalog, Minstrel In The Gallery follows War Child, which was recently released as a 40th Anniversary Edition as a Steven Wilson remix extravaganza. For the upcoming Minstrel In The Gallery remix, there will be a single CD reissue, as well as a vinyl LP release, and a fan set La Grandé with 2CDs and 2DVDs. The single CD issue will offer fourteen tracks, eight more than the original. The vinyl LP version will likely offer only the original eight. The Box will a book-style (like War Child), and feature an 80-page book with photos, an extensive history of the creation and recording of Minstrel In The Gallery, liner notes, and a host of other goodies. The 2CD/2DVD La Grandé set will present the following track-listing: CD1: 01. Minstrel In The Gallery 02. Cold Wind To Valhalla 03. Black Satin Dancer 04. Requiem 05. One White Duck 06. Baker St. Muse 07. Grace 08. Summerday Sands 09. Requiem 10. One White Duck 11. Grace 12. Minstrel In The Gallery-BBC Version 13. Cold Wind To Valhalla-BBC Version 14. Aqualung CD2: 01. Introduction 02. Wind Up 03. Critique Oblique 04. Wond ring Aloud 05. My God 06. Cross-Eyed Mary 07. Minstrel In The Gallery 08. Skating Away On The Thin Ice Of The New Day 09. Bungle In The Jungle 10. Aqualung 11. Guitar Solo 12. Back-Door Angels 13. Locomotive Breath Other highlights from this multi-disc set include the obvious adds: – Original album and seven bonus tracks (six previously unreleased), two mixed to 5.1 surround, and all to stereo by Steven Wilson – Flat transfers of the original LP mix at 96/24 (plus Summerday Sands ) – Flat transfer of the original quad mix of the LP (plus Summerday Sands ) – An eight-minute film of the band performing Minstrel In The Gallery in Paris from July 1975 Now, we can only hope that we continue to see Jethro Tull remix projects coming to realization with Steven Wilson at the helm. Next up would be the 1976 set, Too Old To Rock and Roll, Too Young To Die!. For me, I want the path to continue, at least to 1977’s brilliant Songs From The Woods. I’m pretty confident that we will see a 40th Anniversary project of that album soon enough. Enjoy!

Burning Shed have just listed their top 15 biggest sellers of 2014, and Ian and Tull chart three times. Biggest seller was HE, not surprising, apart from being a worthwhile buy it has had almost a whole year to notch up sales in several formats. Following up are A Passion Play and WarChild, both released later in the year with less time to notch up sales. APP in at no. 9 and WarChild in at no. 11. It would be nice to know what the overall sales were like for the three releases. I'm very proud that we as a group, as well as Tootull, had some part to play in two of them. COOL! Thanks for posting. More to come: Answerable to everyone; responsible to all; publicly dissected

Just arrived. Single cover with lyric dust cover and booklet insert. The booklet is scaled down in content and doesn't contain all the articles contained in the 80 page CD/DVD set :-) Thanks for posting the image, Quizz Kid. I've always preferred the silver album liner. Just a trace of pride upon our fixed grins for there is no business like the show we're in.

Hi Erin, Agree! Speaking of Rainbow Blues, someone at a Buffalo radio station must have loved this tune. Back in the day, I heard it almost every time I tuned into the Buffalo air waves. I wish I could remember the station. Female DJ. ?? I'll be really interested in your 5.1 views. I'm hooked on the quad & the original stereo flat transfer. The stereo flat transfer competes well with the Mobile Fidelity gold CD. add: Glory Row in stereo, quad & 5.1 is glorious. One of my must hear tracks along with Rainbow Blues. Love the groove of Tomorrow Was Today. Not sure what station you would have heard back then.. most likely WGR-FM Known as 97 rock since the 70's. I made my way down to the 5.1 theater and started to listen to disc one of Warchild in 5.1 and was a little disappointed in the sound. After a couple songs in I thought "this could not be right". It sounded better than usual but didn't have the typical bells and whistles I was used to with the SW stuff. The drums sounded dense and the orchestration wasn't separated as I imagined. I decided to browse the menu and to my surprise found that I was on the stereo mix. A huge tip here: You must select DTS 5.1 in the menu beforehand.. It is not the default! I should've known better. Now once in surround mode I restarted the album and what a relief! The 5.1 sounded fantastic as usual!! Everything fell into place. The drums and bass - gut punching, swirling orchestra - acoustic and electric guitars so lifelike, and vocals crisp and clear. Like the other releases I heard things I never had in these songs with beautiful separation and clarity. It also gets better dynamically as it goes along. Not disappointed with this mix at all. I have not been able to hear disc 2 yet but am looking forward to that this week. Especially since I love the stereo version. This is going to be good! Worth every penny Tull fans! I was almost in a panic when I started to read your post, glad all turned out well. 97 Rock sounds about right. The station was low on the dial. Cheers to good listening.

As some guy said... And when all is said and all is done, I couldn't wish for a better WarChild. Agree that disc 2 is great, I've been playing this more than the main album tracks. Even Bungle In the Jungle is fun in surround sound. Hooked on the quad versions big time, thinking too much about that quad. Spectacular WAR!

Have not heard the 5.1 yet. I Will do so over this long weekend. One of the first things I listened t was the orchestra pieces. Wow! I have heard "Tomorrow was Today" and "Good Godmother" a half dozen times each and I love them both! Reminds me of when M.U. came out, hearing a new ( old) song for the first time ("Rainbow Blues"). But these are really great and the sound is as good as it gets. Yes we are spoiled.. Hi Erin, Agree! Speaking of Rainbow Blues, someone at a Buffalo radio station must have loved this tune. Ian's discrete way of extending the life of his copyrights possibly? Ah Ha!! Seriously you think the proofreader couldn't possibly overlook this so many times? Proofreader not my job. I'm all about that sound, no trouble, just talking treble & bass.
