Oh look, Cor... a selection of FONTS with the ever needed italics. Times New Roman is so comfortable so aside from the omnipresent Thanks to Forrest Gump. For our continued edification and fear not. Hard at work are we on the 2014 US Jethro Tull Convention. No Locomotive derailment here. Stay tuned. Few tickets remain. The flutes are being shined.

The 2014 US Tull Convention already happened …………and we've come back down
Heres a bit of a review from a TJTG point of view.

I had the distinct honor and pleasure of being asked by Barry Goldberg to do some design work for the convention. The Poster, Shirt, VIP Badge and Cover for the Program (done by Dennis Landau). The idea that some of all of it is someones keepsake or mounted in someones Tull cave is very rewarding.
So here, along with way too many pictures, I'll try and do a bit of a review of the event. I started off from LA on a Thursday night red eye thru Chicago then Boston.
Landed Friday Morning picked up my way too sophisticated ride and drove down to pick up my two fares Quizz Kid (Pat) Just in the night before from London, and Gerrald (Charlie), Boston, to start the drive down to Long Island.
We arrived at the Holiday Inn around 9:30 (?) and it took what seemed like an hour to make our way to the registration desk. Kept running into one friend or aquaintance then another and another, it was already fun and we weren't even in yet! Finally finished dropping off our bags and grabbing my camera, headed for the Hotel bar just off the lobby entrance. First person encountered was the delightful Ms Dianne Lane (Kelpie) just in from London, (another one!) then John Wentland from Utah, Dennis Landau and Barry Goldberg. It was starting to sink in that these were all real people and not just internet screen names. Then my Martini arrived.

Dennis was handing out flutes so I picked one and took up a position next to the sign-in table to provide some thematics for Barry, the lovely Laura and Dennis (until he couldn't take it any more and took up the 2nd flute). People were lining up at this point
and I recognized more and more folks we knew. Like Bob Morgan and the one and only Roxanne Peters.

Dennis is back to work, Knut(!) and his wife from Trondhiem, Norway (where the TJTG is famous ya know) and Metta King (Teacher) that we knew from the days back on the "The Jethro Tull Board" It was great to have a nice chat with her after all this time. A very nice lady.
Back to the bar where Ms. Lane delivered a couple of swag bags of her own for the Group. Ben Vaccaro was running thru just about every Tull song you could think of. Meeting more old friends Don Bauer and his girl Anita, voted (unofficially) the happiest people at the event, always had a smile for everyone they saw. Soon there was an APP sing-a-long, one of the most surreal moments of the weekend. How many people do you know that know APP? Let alone know all the lyrics.
More playing and fun and games including the one and only Roxy up from Georgia (I believe) and then….
Erin (Tulltapes) pulled in with a van full of equipment and the members of The Shuffling Madness. The Jethro Tull Group was now complete and in the building for the first time live and In person.
This was Friday night (to be continued!)

Man was I putting on a brave face, last I wrote... But I have to say it was a real group (JTG?) effort. So many people to thank worldwide but I know for sure, at the top of the list, one who was always willing to listen to my tales of woe, one who supported me in my darkest hours, days where I wanted to hide in bed under the covers, times where I felt deserted by all who didn't want to be associated with anything I was doing, the love of my life, the apple of my eye, someone who always told me my glass was half full. The bartender.

Great review so far Darin. One thing about the convention that made it special was the people! The organizers did a great job giving everyone a reason to get together from around the world but being together in itself was worth the trip alone. I think everyone felt the "family" atmosphere with eachother. I know I did. Sorry to interrupt.. now back to your review!!

The organizers did a great job giving everyone a reason to get together from around the world but being together in itself was worth the trip alone. I think everyone felt the "family" atmosphere with eachother. I know I did. Sorry to interrupt.. now back to your review!! That was the overarching truth of the convention was meeting people face to face that you've gotten to know via the chat boards or Facebook for the last 14 years. People I didn't recognize would come up and offer their hand and introduce themselves and blow me away as I have interacted with them online for quite a while and did actually know them. Some I have gotten to know well online but never met in person like Don Bauer, and old trading buddy from St. Louis area and member of the Yahoo Groups. Another that I almost didn't even think about until we DID see each other was YOU Erin lol, chatting day to day for a while I forgot that we'd never shaken hands and made the Clasp. That was good. Seeing you and Barry Hauser meet up, someone that used to hang and attend Tull shows with your late father was pretty moving. So many people that had one core thing in common, they were all afflicted with the same disease in various severities. That affliction known as Tull. People came from Trondheim, London, Florida, most of the new England states, New York, New Jersey, Mass., New Hampshire, Rode Island Chicago, St. Louis, Texas, California, Washington, Georgia and Canada. Thats really something when you think about all those looney hitchhikers on the road…… I'll continue the picture commentary in a bit. (The challenge of formatting a nice page using pro boards interface is a drag, but….!) Darin

I can't disagree with a word of any that. It was great meeting and chewing the cud with some old friends from last year's visit, some old friends who I had only known as an online presence and some new friends, all Tull fans without a bad bone in their bodies it seems. Everyone and I do mean everyone, seemed to have a great time, enjoyed the bands, the IA gig and each others company. it was pretty much a solid Tull community of fans.
Thanks to Barry, Michael and Dennis for arranging so much, it was a great convention, I have a stack of pics to upload as well, time has been a bit tight of late since getting back but I promise to do it this week.
Some great Tull stories, memories and experiences, all shared digested and enjoyed.
More to come.
