The Package and book look brilliant! The little bit of just the 2 channel mix sounded superb. I will post more after listening to the 5.1 a few times.

Congratulations for the mention in APP, fantastic, and also to Pat for the brilliant interview with Jane. You guys have worked so hard in providing all JT fans with some amazing memorabilia and lots of other things and I for one appreciate it. You are all Tulltastic…………. As are you Kelpie! Thanks for the appreciation.

First listen.. pretty incredible!.. to my ears. I listened to the Chateau Tapes first and that was a real treat. Along with the audio is a looping slideshow of pictures from the book (by Carl Dunn and Larry Lent via TJTG) There was pretty much no flute on any of it except a little background here and there (Skating Away). Which was weird. I kept messing with my 5.1 amp settings because I couldn't get it to sound the way I imagined but I think that's because there is so much I'm used to hearing from the 93 overdubs that isn't there. When I put the Passion Play DVD in it was instant ear candy. WOW! I must listen a couple more time but I am pretty amazed right now. It sounded shockingly good! The extra verses are almost surreal to hear.

Seems there a bit of a postcode lottery going on with Amazon around the country, they delivered my back-up copies yesterday bright and early. Stories of them being taken back not being delivered and taken back to TNT depots, not being expected for delivery for another week abound. Demand must be high. I expect there's a few grumpy people in households across the country stalking the postman or kicking the dog when the letterbox goes and there's nowt on the doormat. Still hold fire, it is well worth it. Plus - Nice avatar Erin. And huge thanks to the person, presumably a Tull Fan, who posted the link to the interview on the Hoffmann site and for all the supportive comments it drew from fans there. Nice to see fans sharing it .Who knows I may just do another one sometime :-)

Thanks Dianne, it's nice to get some positive feedback and support for what we are trying to do. It's been a great few days, the APP inclusion was fantastic but better still for me is the tremendous feedback we've had from fans on other major music forums who have taken the time to read, and respond positively to the interview, that along with comments like yours and the welcome feedback from Paul and a few others at The Board, makes doing this worthwhile.

It is nice that fans appreciate what the group has done. We have so much more to share here, at the Manual and on Facebook. This has been a labor of love for us. Good things come to those who wait...and good things will come in time as we expand our memorabilia sections. it is like a full time job. Thanks for the kind words, we appreciate that, this is why we do it for people to appreciate the unique talents and artistry of Ian and Jethro Tull. ... And Mr Kent's interview is simple spectacular kudos to Pat. Again thanks Dianne for supporting our efforts. Keep your eyes open .......................

It's more than disappointing, it's a bit of a travesty when, as you say, guaranteed delivery. There shouldn't be any question about delivery particularly when the push for pre-orders has been on for some considerable time. It doesn't seem to improve for many and looks like lessons aren't learnt release after release. It's even more aggravating for those that don't have the hard copy to hear that the Amazon download isn't even ready yet

It seems to be stuck in Clinton, PA which is a whole HOUR from here! I could drive up and get it!! I called Amazon and complained, they've overnighted another one and didn't charge me. The tracking for the first still says it'll be delivered by today. Lame.

The tracking for the first still says it'll be delivered by today. Lame. Man Ian that is a bummer. Being a broadcaster you should have an early copy. I do have a copy on it's way in the mail but drove up to the local Record Theatre early yesterday to see if they had one anyway. They didn't! So I drove to the other Record Theatre up the street. (Yes we have 2 actual Record Stores left in Buffalo) low and behold there was one locked in a wall case. They said it was "the last one". I could not resist! I wll say that it is worth the wait!!! I highly recommend that if anyone here doesn't have a 5.1 setup that you seriously consider it in the near future. They are not terribly costly anymore and it's such a listening experience to behold. You can just sit and listen.. like the old days... but it sounds out of this world! You feel afterwards like you just came from an event or a concert. There are a lot of good Tull (and others Yes "Close to the Edge" comes to mind) releases in superb 5.1 and more on the way. It's a worthy investment!

WOW! That was simply amazing! Just beautiful. I LOVE the extra verses, they fit just perfectly. The Chateau tapes are outstanding. And Sailor was just incredible. But lets not forget The Intro & Outro film from the tour. Holy cow! Great job Steven Wilson!! I think it will take a few more listens to form an actual review.

I can't get enough of these mixes, of both APP and Chateau. In the wee small hours, I started to try and write a review, but found it difficult putting into words how much better this sounds without detracting from what was already a brilliant piece of work [OK, I admit I'm one of those obsessed APP fans Ian feels it OK to call anal]. I'll limit my comments to the audio, just sublime, Steve Wilson has done a masterful job, Ian is top man for giving him leeway to tinker with an existing masterpiece, the band sound tighter than ever and Martin is elevated even higher in my esteem, I love it, go get it, it's pretty damned good. More cowbell did I hear someone say?

Mine didn't arrive yesterday, but with a little help from a good friend I was able to hear it a little early. I wanted to hear Chateau first - first impressions were very positive. I think Ian must've added a ton of compression to Nightcap - this sounds so clear and lacks almost any noise at all. It's hard to believe just how good those tapes sound! Sonically, almost identical to APP! I also think that the flute overdubs may have actuay contributed to the murky sound of those sessions. Without them (and the gratuitous amount of reverb he placed on the tracks), I can now hear a lot of instrumental detail that was previously masked by the excessive reverb. I always had the opinion that these tracks were somehow less complex than APP, but this new remix tells a different story. Also, the dynamics are incredible - I got chills listening to John's organ on Critique Oblique! That said, I do wish we had an alternate remix with the flute overdubs on it, just in case we wanted to listen to it with them every once in awhile. Truly, though, this is the ultimate way to listen to Chateau D'Isaster IMO. One minor quibble, I felt Martin was a bit buried on Left Right - he should be cranked up to the front!
As for APP, I thought SW did a wonderful job of cleaning things up. For the most part, he stayed pretty close to the original mixing choices with a few differences. I do like the added bit of verses on Foot of Our Stairs, I'm not sure how they contribute to the plot (should be interesting to see that hashed out on the message boards once we've all heard it!). To me, this collection sonically is as cleaned up as the front cover is visually. I must confess I never really liked the cover of APP, but now that they've reverted back to the original image from Jane, it's as epic, dark, and filmic as it always should've been. A+++ for this one!

Spot the difference The top one is the original, the bottom one the poorer quality copy. Really don't mind if you copy my pic but maybe if you don't credit it, you might not crop the pic to leave out the best bit. Maybe you could use your pic of your copy? Thanks John, I heard and have seen that you've been kind enough to respond and give credit. That is appreciated. Pat Pat, Getting called out with a sense of humour, I must respond in kind. Still laughing at this one - poorer quality LOL, too true. (Sepia tone didn't fool.) I must have known that I would get a reaction. It was all too easy to use your pic at the time. thanks for opening the door JohnN

Thanks David, Have you heard it yet? I'd be interested to hear your views on it. Not yet, but I am looking forward to it. I used to get everything on the day of release, but $$ has been tight of late (cue the violins for the sob story...preferably played by Anna Phoebe, Ann Marie Calhoun, and Lucia Micarelli!) Ha ha ha!!! Thanks for being interested in my humble opinion and I will let you know what I think when I do hear it! - David

Mine won't arrive until next Friday (procrastination is my middle name, but I did get it for under $30 through a secondary seller on Amazon) but I have listened to the stereo remixes on Rhapsody. Wow....the extra verses in The Foot Of Our Stairs is pretty mind blowing of course, as well as all of the extra bits and pieces that have been added (or taken out). I can't wait to fire up the 5.1 disc cranked way the hell up on my home theater system!
The Chateau recordings are even more of a revelation. Amazing to hear clear versions of The Big Top and Sailor for the very first time. I don't think I fully realized the extent of overdubbing that was done by Ian for the 20 year box set and Nightcap releases....I think it sounds much cleaner in it's original form, although there are some bits here and there where you do miss the flute. I wonder if what he overdubbed years later is truly representative of what he actually would have laid down at the time if they hadn't scrapped the whole thing. Again, looking forward to the 5.1 version of this as well....and can't wait to read the book of course!

I'm totally thrilled with this release. The book, the sound, the complete Chateau Tapes. If this doesn't convince absolutely everyone that APP / Chateau are two of the best albums of all time, I don't know what will. Well done, Steven Wilson. As for the missing sax parts, is it just me or does it seem like there are *more* sax parts? Particularly on "Foot of Our Stairs". Or have they been lost in the mix all of these years?

It is really great! It has passed my expectations! So thankful to have SW around to initiate all this...and convince Ian to have all this stuff uncovered. And there will be more! Some of the sax overdubs were taken out of the mix though revealing some of the single sax lines that you've never really heard before. It's not a lot, but it is noticeable.. more so on the surround mix. That's probably what you're hearing?

There is some things that really do sound unfinished in both composition and production. You can tell the difference right away when you compare to PP. But I never thought I would hear some of the Chateau songs so clearly and clean. It is a real treat to have this! I think a lot of the melodies were probably set in stone and some of it would have sounded very much like what he put down in 80's and 90's but if they finished it I think there would have been some significant differences overall. Ian didn't even get around to record the flute (or more vocals) for this, so who knows what would have been added after that. All the little production bits/overdubs/etc..
