Ode to Jethro Tull
You’re a poet and a ‘Minstrel in the Gallery’ of old
Singing ‘Songs from the Wood’ many stories you unfold
Of ‘Jack in the Green’ and his antics you do tell
With the ‘Hunting Girl’ you weave your magic spell
In your gown of ‘Velvet Green’ you play your wondrous flutes
Lead us into ‘Living in the Past’ dancing in your long boots
Drinking from the ‘Cup of Wonder’ we look on in awe
No ‘Reasons for Waiting’ we just want more
Tell us of the ‘Flying Dutchman’ when he comes to call
And sing of the ‘Old Ghosts’ who lay awaiting in the hall
Do we still live in these mysterious ‘Dark Ages’?
Let’s bring out the ‘Broadsword’ and write more pages
The ‘Kelpie’ rides along the ‘Crest of a Knave’
Long forgotten stories brought out from the grave
You’re a colourful ‘Journeyman’ from times of long ago
Telling tales of ‘Jack Frost and the Hooded Crow’
‘Roots to Branches’ laid out in the snow
And those ‘Dogs in the Midwinter’ laying low
Is there a ‘Witches Promise’ and will she keep it safe for all?
Or will she whisper in the ear of ‘The Sparrow on the Schoolyard Wall?
We hear she has ‘Fallen on Hard Times’
No good listening to gutter rhymes
Lets all gather to sing around the ‘Fire at Midnight’ very soon
And listen out for ‘The Whistler’ under the light of the moon
But I hear that ‘Something’s on the Move’ so please beware
Go down to ‘Dun Ringill’ and wait for me there
‘With you there to Help me’ all will be fine
I need a nice ‘Warm Sporran’ that I can call mine
Then take me ‘Home’ with ‘The Heavy Horses’ to ‘Acres Wild’
To the ‘Farm on the Freeway’ and pray for the ‘War Child’
And hope once more to ‘Look into the Sun’
Just never forget that ‘I am your Gun’
Way ‘Down at the End of Your Road’
We all can join in to the ‘Rhythm in Gold’
And watch the ‘Slow Marching Band’ ‘Play in Time’
Along ‘The Rattlesnake Trail’ try to keep in line
Many ‘Strange Avenues’ you have taken us along
And thrilled us all for ‘Life is a Long Song’
So darlings are you ready….. ‘Cap in Hand’
We love you Ian and the band
It’s time now for us to go
We’ll say so long…… and ‘Cheerio’…….

I'm pleased you liked it , thank you. I wrote it back in March of this year. It didn't take that long, I sat down with pencil and paper and it just flowed.
