wow the 1974 lineup of Tull were at your door?? Looks like they were crap at playing 'Knock down Ginger'. (UK children's game reference of knocking on someone's doir and running away)

Ian, We had a great time as did everyone else, it was also pretty full on and most of us have been trying to reintegrate into the real world once again, rejoining families, remembering we have jobs and slowly readjusting to long forgotten timezones. But! Reviews will follow, and if you want to check out a whole bag of photo's drop by and view albums 1 and 2 on our facebook page. In the meantime we muct say Thanks to Barry G, Dennis L, Mike G and a host of opthers for putting on a truly great convention. When you factor in what also took place around the convention, at the hotel, the Ian show at the Paramount and the making of new friends, meeting old friends, swapping Tull and especially Tull fan stories from the band and others it was four days of fantastic fun. Now I better catch up on the 35 hours sleep I missed over those five days......

What a perverse world we live in when people cannot seperate the performer from the human being.
Sad times indeed when Ian has to take to writing this and warning people off from physical intrusion into his private life.

Skatng away was a stand out track on my first listen to WarChild, still amongst my favourites "Ladies" rubbed me the wrong way for quite a few years, but I've recently had an epiphany as to how awesome it actually is. Now, I can fully empathise with that, I recall hearing it the first time and it drove me nuts. but it wasn;t long until it sat nicely in there with the rest of the tracks.

I can recall hearing Aqualung, Locomotive Breath, My God (once) and maybe Hymn 43, but that's it. No other Tull on any radio I know of. Apart from Planet Rock these days, the chances of hearing and Tull related airply in the UK is practically zero. Living in the past might make it onto a 'sounds of the sixties' type of show but no real airplay. Prior to Planet Rock it was even worse.

Damn and Blast! I missed out on the last UK leg of Martin's current tour. But I have seen so many good reviews of his recent European shows that my appetite has been whetted enough to make me feel I have to pull out all the stops to try to get to see him play at least once during his late 2014 early 2015 shows.

I can go with that for TOTRNR [the track] probably the most monotonous on the album

Tootull,
you can secure some solace in the fact that whilst Sweet Dream was one of the first tracks to lure me towards a life of Tull, I soon tired of it and consigned it to the nether worlds.

I think those words of JFK must have inspired many a skygazing kid back in the 60's. I know they did for me.
Back then the sky wasn't the limit and 2001 was still 40 odd years away. Then people lost interest and budgets were cut and we moved backwards for too long a time.

Spinning out of Tootull's comment on another thread that 'A Small Cigar' was the first Tull tune that he really complained about, what was yours? The song that jarred so badly you throught Ian or the band had lost the plot.
For me there were a few on the 20th Anniversary box set that really didn't do it for me at the time, Crossword, Saturation and Rhythm in Gold. They have eased a bit on my ears over time, but they still grate enough for me to skip them if they appear on shuffle in the car.

I found it so quirky and out of character I really liked it. I suppose it's because I am a big fan of TOTRNR [maybe the only one], and I thought this worked perfectly for the Ray Lomas persona and how out of place the song and he was.
I have always wanted to know the order of play for TOTRNR and the 'extra' tracks. Sad git that I am.

It's got to be a better form of recognition than the overblown excesses of the current HoF. I fail to see why anyone would want to be in it, unrepresentative of R'n'R and blind to many of the commercially and critically successful bands that current R'n'R was built on.
The trouble would be that these sort of places would be financially unviable, IMO better to have local recognition of individuals, places and events, like the blue plaque heritage scheme in London.
I've seen the John Lennon statue in Liverpool adorned with abusive grafitti, and the Amy Winehouse one in Camden just looks awful. So, not sure how best muso's should be represented but anything than the current HoF.

My mate Mike wasn't a 'face' Tull fan, but he was a very long standing fan known to a lot of regulars in the UK. He came over from Canada in the late 60 's to practice Architecture, he had a small practice but nevertheless he was a good Architect. We first met when we were sat on opposite sides of the table, him representing developers, me on the side of the local authority. We wouldn't always see eye to eye over the schemes, but we did always sit down and work out solutions to make it happen. Mike was always positive. At the time Mike worked for a developer who had a lot of sites in the area I covered, so we met pretty regularly. But, it was five years or so later, that me and Mrs Q were standing in line to get into the first UK Tull convention when I felt a hand on my shoulder and a softly spoken Canadian voice, say "Pat?" We had worked together for around five years and never realised that we were both Tull fans. From that moment we became friends out of the work environment and he and I along with our partners went to gigs. Mike and his wife Gill became lifelong friends of ours and it wasn't just Tull, we saw a lot of shows together. Despite our friendship Mike never once asked for any favours when his projects came through, he was as straight as the day was long. I will always have huge respect for him, he never blurred the edges. When I retired and started my own business he helped me get established. He was as generous as he was kind. A few years ago he offered to drive down to Canterbury for one of Ian's Christmas shows. We thought we would have to abandon the trip due to really heavy snow. Mike seemed to scoff at the idea saying it was nothing compared to driving in Canada. We were treated to one of the best displays of inclement weather driving I have ever witnessed, I swear we were doing 80mph at times through snow on the A2 down to Canterbury, and feeling totally safe. The four of us had a great time down there. A weekend to cherish. When we stayed overnight at gigs Mike would often talk of the tours and gigs he attended with Dave Rees, Terry Coates, Martin Webb and others and the laughs they had. It was Mike who introduced me to them and Martin Driver and a few of the band members as well as a host of others. Mike died last night after just over a year of illness. He was a good bloke. I never heard him bad mouth anyone, and never heard anyone bad mouth him. I will miss him and I'm sure a lot of other Tull fans will miss him as well. Do me a favour, if you have a drink tonight, raise a glass to him and wish him cheerio. Mike and me [centre back] at the 1990 convention from the 1991 convention programme - Pic Adrian Tyte

I agree about pitting one against another, when you posted this I felt the need to share it simply because I bloody well enjoyed it Even though it may be the same every night, it was fun to see and hear a bit of what appears a loose and rolling bass solo. Best I've heard for a long time.

Hi Ian
Good to hear you really enjoyed the show, an honest review from someone whose opinion is valued makes me look forward to seeing the gig in a couple of weeks.
My only criticism of the set list is a wish to see some old tracks dropped, including the standard bouree, aqualung and loco for the simple reason it would be good to hear something new, plus drop SftW due to vocal restrictions.
Was WYTHTHM on the list and did Dave G add vocals as heard on some YouTube clips?
Hope you managed to place your spare ticket.

Sharing news items is not something we normally do, but this is one worth making the deviation for I think. As we approach the 100th anniversary of the commencement of World War 1, I thought it would be sharing this in case it hasn't bee seen in some quarters yet. In London there is an art installation by artist Paul Cummins being being constructed around the moat of the Tower of London. It is entitled "Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red" and represetns those British and Commonwealth soldiers who lost their lives in World War 1. Each ceramic poppy represents one of those lives lost. Photo copyright - Stephen Nixon Each of the 888,246 hand made poppies has been purchased by a member of the public for £25 with the proceeds being shared equally amongst six service charities. A small price to pay for the lives lost not only on the allies side but also those others involved in or caught up in fighting. The installation will be completed at 11.00am on the 11th November 2014. Soon afterwards it will also start to be dismantled and the poppies sent to their new homes. I'll be proud to receive mine and display them in memory of all servicemen who lost their lives in battle. More images can be found at the London Blog 'I was literally on my way', iwasliterallyonmyway.blogspot.co.uk/For more information on the poppies installation and the charities involved visit: poppies.hrp.org.uk/buy-a-poppy/I have just read that ALL the poppies have now been sold.
