Erin had been in pretty close contact with Glenn for a few months prior to his surgery, discussing with him the scope for us to bring him over to NY for the upcoming Tull Convention. We knew that he was experiencing post surgical problems but hoped that he would recover quickly.
The news today has shocked many, and I know we all hold him and his family in our thoughts and prayers, especially the very many fans who had a good bond with Glenn beyond being just fans.
Until we get some definitive news we'll update with what we can. This was relayed via Tony Williams
"Glenn came home on Friday and is now moving about fairly well. Family and friends have been pouring through and Glenn loves the company and Bridgette needs the support. Aloha"

From Tull Management Glenn Cornick: musician. April 23rd 1947 – August 29th 2014. "It is with great sadness that we learned today of the passing of Glenn Cornick, bass player with Jethro Tull from the band’s inception 1968 until 1970. Of course, he had also played with the John Evan Band for the year during 1967 and so his contribution to the geographical transition from Blackpool to London and into the professional music scene was considerable.
Glenn was a man of great bonhomie and ready to befriend anyone – especially fellow musicians. Always cheerful, he brought to the early stage performances of Tull a lively bravado both as a personality and a musician.
His background in the beat groups of the North of England and his broad knowledge of music were always helpful in establishing the arrangements of the early Tull.
During the many years since then, Glenn continued to play in various bands and was a frequent guest at Tull fan conventions where he would join in with gusto to rekindle the musical moments of the early repertoire.
We will miss him hugely and our condolences go to his wife Bridgette and children.

Maartin Allcock's feelings via Facebook
"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! What a very nice man, great bass player, very influential in my own apprenticeship, and when I eventually met him, such a really nice guy. My thoughts are with his family and his old chums, who always thought the world of him. Such a funny man too. I remember the time he came to Cropredy Festival in 1996, and despite his 'survival' of the transatlantic flight Mrs C was so nervous about, then got on the train to meet Clive Bunker. The train then crashed at Watford, killing one person and injuring 67 others. He came straight from the hospital so he could be at Cropredy in time, still with his hospital tag on his wrist. We really hit it off and we spent most of the weekend together. He joked that it was because I had realised that he had been "pre-disastered". Farewell nice man, you will be missed. You were very loved. My heart is very heavy again."

More years ago than I care to remember a schoolmate first introduced me to Jethro Tull.
I was hooked onto a band I grew up with.
The flute and guitar were one thing, but the rolling melodic bass lines put down by Glenn Cornick were also a large part of what captured and held my interest.
Glenn will remain a superlative player through his recordings. I never got to see him play with Tull but I've listened to him play for over 45 years and loved it.
I'm lucky to be able to continue to listen to one of the best bass players I've ever heard.
RIP Glenn.

Back in 1972 I started learning to play the flute, the first song I learned was Bouree, and before I was done actually tackling it completely note for note from beginning to end I'd probably run through it 1000 times or more.
The bass line in that song is indelibly etched in my brain and I believe it was written by Glenn. A perfect accompanying line to that melody.
The idea that that man is now gone is very very sad. God bless Glenn Cornick
Instead of a moment of silence, take the time to listen to him play. He and Clive together were a fantastic rhythm section.
and listen to this especially from 2:53 on
So sorry he's gone.

Yes, sounds like he pulled up an older interview and inserted it after the eulogy. Interesting part about working with Ian and the "non relationship" just knowing what needed to be done to make Tull what it was in an unspoken way. That second hand in the creative process is something that I think is missing. (aside from that sound of his) Its a checks and balances kind of thing. As much as Ive come to like HE it seems a bit too "clean and tidy" compared to a Tull thing. So you can call it what you want but it IS different. Always like listening to them talk about the first US tours, exploring sandwich shops across the country (It seems Martin became the official deli sandwich hunter) long before the Indian food pursuit in each city. Thanks for that Darin

Glenn was a rock icon! One of the overlooked pioneers on bass. Living in the Past, Bouree, Teacher, and even things Like "With You there to Help Me", Jeffery Goes to Leicester Square, etc.. are a masterclass in how to be melodic. He made the songs he played on so much more interesting! He was Brilliant! He was also the nicest guy, with much talent and passion for playing music. I miss him already! But we have those great songs.

Yes a very special and moving tribute to Glenn. Well done Erin Thanks everyone.. and thanks for posting here tootull. I put this together just as something to remember Glenn's years w Tull. He really was an integral part of the show with that early lineup.. and imo a very underrated bassist. Just Bouree and LITP have to be some of the most classic bass lines ever in rock music. It's somewhat unfortunate he was cut short from the band and never really reclaimed the amount of fame from the late 60's early 70's but he always remained a great musician.. and was a funny, warm, honest, real person. I feel lucky to have reconnected with him very recently. He was as kind and as funny as ever!. He is truly missed!
