After a couple of years of searching, last year I found, met up with and interviewed Jane, 'The Ballerina', who graced the cover of APP and performed on film during the intro and outro to the live APP shows, as well as being involved in more ways than one with the 'Hare who lost his spectacles' film segment. Jane has a fascinating story to tell and she kept me engrossed for nearly three and a half hours that day chatting about those times. It was less like an interview than I could imagine. She was totally charmimg and very honest about her role with Ian working on the album cover and film, and beyond. For one reason or another I never got to post the interview earlier and now I plan to get it up here before the APP release in June. I'm lucky enough to say that Jane and I have kept n touch on a pretty regular basis and we are meeting up again soon to add to my previous interview. Jane has some wonderful memories that should entertain. This is just one of the pictures from our meeting last year where she kindly showed me some of her personal pictures from the album shoot and some other personal pictures from those times. Picture Copyright The Jethro Tull Group/Pat KentShe also kindly signed some posters I had made for good friends. I hope she will sign one or two others next we meet, one of which I will suggest auctioning on behalf of a suitable charity.

Thanks Preston,I agree it has been a long time coming, I recorded the whole interview and chat with Jane's permission, it's taken a time to transcribe [and still isn't fully transcribed] due to ambient noise from the surrounding area we were in; other interruptions unconnected to Jane further delayed making it into Tull World. However, Jane offered to meet up again and redo parts of the interview and to elaborate on some parts.
Jane has also given an interview for the upcoming APP release but I think ours will elaborate on a bit more since we won't need to edit it to fit.
I'm hoping to catch up with her in London sometime at the end of May/early June

Well I have to say for a woman that is of a "certain age" (and thats mine) she looks to be a real knock out. Must be the lifetstyle of a dancer. Hubba Hubba (Sorry Jane, just kidding) Very beautiful. Darin I can't wait for this Cody

Hey there everyone.. I just joined up. I'm GREATLY looking forward to the 5.1 mix of APP (best album of all time!) and the more complete version of the Chateau tapes cleaned up, etc. Yippee! I'll have to take a photo of my prized possession - my Passion Play LP jacket that Ian signed (in 1978 on a Heavy Horses promo autograph session during a tour stop), and post it here sometime.

I'm very much looking forward to this! I also noticed that her copy of the jacket art is more in line with the upcoming reissue. Was there a problem with the printing of the original LP that caused it to come out bold?

Just post the audio, Pat, what do you think soundcloud is for? ;-) Ian, that would be great to do, and I may post parts of it later subject Jane's approval. The problem with parts of the recording stem from the fact that we were sitting outside at a restaurant in the newly 'regenerated' Kings Cross area of London on a rare sunny day and we were also enjoying some street theatre that was going on, and so there is a fair bit of background noise. Once I get the second part of the interview done we'll look into what we can do to upload it. On another point, you may have noticed a few weeks ago we slimmed down the opening menu of boards and topics to hopefully make things easier. We have also added a sub-board where members can discuss music other than Tull as you and a few others suggested. Just go to "Mayhem Maybe" on the chat main page and then go to "Singing all day".

I'm very much looking forward to this! I also noticed that her copy of the jacket art is more in line with the upcoming reissue. Was there a problem with the printing of the original LP that caused it to come out bold? I noticed that also Ian and was excited to see the actual greyscale photo, possibly supplied by Jane herself to EMI. I imagine it was an art director decision to do the high contrast job on the original front cover. I remember trying to figure out what the background actually was when it came out, it was not readily apparent. So much mystery surrounded the band in those days, it was a "cause" among my friends and I to try and puzzle out the meanings of TAAB APP, Warchild and so on back in the days of yore. My girlfriend was of the opinion that the dead flower in Janes left hand were the bones of her fingers! It took a while to connect the living ballerina (with a living flower) on the back cover and the dead ballerina and her dead flower......something has happened here! As far as the photo it's a good bet that they intentionally contrasted it to create just that mystery. I really loved the games Ian set forth back in those days, challenging us to figure this or that out. It took a few nights of a few of us pouring over encyclopedias and dictionarys going through the APP lyrics to find out what the Play was all about. It was fascinating work and we got it pretty closely. One more tid bit, I heard Ian say (somewhere) that during the APP tour while the intro film was rolling the ultra slow motion film of Jane began to move, (it was kind of accepted by us in the audience, that we were looking at a still photo of the cover projected up on the screen with a big white, then red dot pulsing as a heart beat over it) Ian states that he used to peak through the curtain to see if he could spot the first person that noticed that Jane was actually beginning to rise! It backed up my suspicion that Ian was playing with his audience all the time and loving it. That was just one of the extras that came with being a fan of Tull as opposed to most any other group of the day. more tales from the Stone Age from Darin ;-)
