Went to see Ian Anderson at Liverpool yesterday. The new release was vibrant and suited live performance. Even the poorer songs came over well. Very impressed. The second half was a revelation...I was not expecting much having heard the audio of the opening night. I was wrong ..visually stunning , musically adept. No discernible mistakes. Totally energised performance..it has been many years since I have seen musicians associated with Tull /Ian Anderson have so much fun on stage. Spoken monologues by band members were an unwanted and unnecessary distraction. Video introduction not great , video ending cheesy , that apart visualisations worked magnificently.
Sharing of vocal duties worked well and brought to life the back catalogue. Embarrassing croaking replaced by thoughtful vocal harmonies. Mix was excellent throughout. Critique Oblique was stunning. Florian Opahle was totally outstanding ,subtle when needed but bursting with melodic and powerful solos ..his Aqualung solo was performed and executed in a way that others can only dream of. Will be at Birmingham , Manchester and York during this tour and will report back.....but the performance at Liverpool has raised the bar to a level that I doubt will be matched or beaten in this leg of the tour.

Hi Elwyn
I have to say, I've heard the Brighton boot as well, just after I secured a couple of tickets for Shepherd's Bush. and my heart sank a little: But, given the quality of boots is so variable I put my trust in discerning Tull fans and on Steve J's and your reviews I'm fired up to see what I hope is a great show.

I agree, the Brighton Dome gig left much to be desired, but having watched a few videos from Liverpool (which have surfaced on Youtube), it seems much, much better. I'm with Quiz, my heart sank to think that I spent $75, but I felt a little better after watching the Liverpool footage. Hopefully in 6 months things will smooth over (I'm confident that they will).

Preston thanks for posting the video. It appears that the band sounds better then opening night from Brighton. A very encouraging sign.

Thanks Preston, once again a great review, well written, despite the limitations you mention your review keeps me optimistic for a good show in London. It would be good if you could make it down, I currently have a spare!

Very nice review of the show Preston. I think everyone should give this a look. A spot on review.
It is refreshing to note that Ian and crew, are not "Too Old To Rock n Roll, as evident in this show.
